mitte makeover!

Seit 2023 ist das mitte das Herzstück der Jungen Stadtmacher:innen – doch zu Beginn war noch unklar, welche Rolle der Raum genau spielen würde. Fest stand nur: Hier sollten Formate ausprobiert werden, die die Innenstadt für junge Menschen attraktiver machen.
Mit der Zeit wurde immer deutlicher: mitte ist nicht einfach nur ein Projektraum – es ist ein urbanes Wohnzimmer. Während der Testphase gab es kaum Ausstattung – eine Couch von der Straße, gespendete Möbel. Trotzdem fühlte es sich direkt gemütlich an. Menschen aus der Nachbarschaft oder unserem Nachbarn Werkstattcafé kamen vorbei u.A. um ihre Sitzungen im mitte zu machen, weil die Atmosphäre gemütlicher war als nebenan, wo es eher ums Handwerken geht. Ende 2024 ergab sich dann die Chance, mit Fördergeldern aus dem Forschungsprojekt in die Ausstattung zu investieren. Klar, die Jungen Stadtmacher:innen wissen, dass es nicht viel braucht, um einen Raum mit Leben zu füllen – aber wenn Konzept, Gestaltung und Liebe drinstecken, fühlt es sich einfach noch besser an.
Ein neues Design, abgestimmt auf die Corporate Identity, wurde entwickelt. Eine Hochebene schafft zusätzlichen Platz, und der Raum bleibt maximal flexibel – perfekt für alles, was hier passiert: Café, Salsa-Abende, Coworking, Movie Nights, Lesungen oder Partys.

Since 2023, mitte has been the centrepiece of the Young City Makers – but at the beginning, it was still unclear exactly what role the space would play. The only thing that was certain was that it would be used to try out formats that would make the city centre more attractive for young people.
Over time, it became increasingly clear that mitte was not just a project space – it was an urban living room. During the test phase, there was hardly any equipment – a couch from the street, donated furniture. Nevertheless, it immediately felt cosy. People from the neighbourhood or our neighbour Werkstattcafé came by to hold their meetings in the mitte, among other things, because the atmosphere was cosier than next door, where it was more about crafting. At the end of 2024, the opportunity arose to invest in the equipment with funding from the research project. Of course, the Young City Makers know that it doesn’t take much to fill a space with life – but when concept, design and love are involved, it simply feels even better.
A new design was developed to match the corporate identity. A mezzanine floor creates additional space and the room remains as flexible as possible – perfect for everything that happens here: Café, salsa evenings, coworking, movie nights, readings or parties.
