Die Formate, die im Mitte stattfinden, sind so unterschiedlich wie die Gemeinschaft, die sie nutzt. Neben den sogenannten „Caretakers“, die sich ehrenamtlich um Logistik, Kommunikation – wie zum Beispiel Social Media – und die Erhaltung des Raums kümmern, sind die Makers ein super wichtiger Teil des Mitte. Jede Person, die eine Idee für ein bereicherndes Format hat, kann diese in der Regel umsetzen. So zum Beispiel auch Ipek und Egehan, zwei türkische Studierende, die an der Hochschule Anhalt im internationalen Masterstudiengang Integriertes Design studieren. Auf den Vorschlag von Ege – der in seiner Heimat jahrelange Erfahrung als Salsa-Lehrer gesammelt hat – wird seit Herbst 2024 im Mitte dienstagabends getanzt.

„Am Anfang musste ich erst mal spontan sein, schauen, wer kommt und wie ich den Kurs aufbauen muss“, berichtet er. Auch das ist Teil von Mitte: das Ausprobieren und Lernen – und natürlich auch das Anwenden von Fähigkeiten, die aus der Community kommen. Mittlerweile ist der Salsa-Abend eines der beliebtesten Formate – die Regelmäßigkeit spielt dabei natürlich eine wichtige Rolle. Inzwischen hat sich aus einem zweiwöchigen Turnus ein wöchentlicher entwickelt, mit Kursen für Anfänger*innen und Fortgeschrittene.

„Für mich ist das Spannende, am selben Abend mit so vielen verschiedenen Leuten zu tanzen, denn wir müssen immer den Partner wechseln. Das Körpergefühl und die Berührung in diesem Format sind irgendwie total spannend und schaffen ein tolles soziales Gefühl“, sagt eine der Tanzenden.

The formats that take place at Mitte are as diverse as the community that uses them. In addition to the so-called “Caretakers”, who take care of logistics, communication – such as social media – and maintaining the space on a voluntary basis, the Makers are a super important part of Mitte. Anyone who has an idea for an enriching format can usually implement it. Take Ipek and Egehan, for example, two Turkish students who are studying for an international Master’s degree in Integrated Design at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. At the suggestion of Ege – who has years of experience as a salsa teacher in his home country – they have been dancing on Tuesday evenings in Mitte since fall 2024.

“In the beginning, I had to be spontaneous, see who was coming and how to set up the class,” he says. That’s also part of Mitte: trying things out and learning – and of course using skills that come from the community. The salsa evening is now one of the most popular formats – and regularity naturally plays an important role. In the meantime, it has developed from a two-week cycle to a weekly one, with courses for beginners and advanced dancers.

“For me, the exciting thing is dancing with so many different people on the same evening, because we always have to change partners. The physical sensation and the touch in this format are somehow totally exciting and create a great social feeling,” says one of the dancers.
